The prices of basic food products have tripled in recent days in the rural commune of Kalima, territory of Pangi (Maniema).
The mayor of this municipality, Philemon Kikobya, delivered this information on Monday January 20 to Radio Okapi.
This political-administrative authority cites for example the 60 cl bottle of palm oil which went from 1500 Congolese francs to 5000 Congolese francs.
Sellers of this product attribute this increase to supply difficulties due to the rainy period.
Others say they are faced with increasing prices for motorcycle taxis on the Kailo-Pangi route.
-As for cassava flour, the dried chips from which it is made are purchased on the Kindu road and some traders travel to Kailo territory to obtain supplies of this product. Faced with rising transport costs, these women are also forced to increase the price of flour.
Philemon Kikobya said he asked the sellers of these different products not to exaggerate too much with the prices to meet the purchasing power of families who consume these products in this part of the country.
