The pollen monitoring campaign for the year 2025 officially started this Monday, January 20 with the recommissioning of sensors installed in , Chalon, , Besançon and Montbéliard.

These devices collect pollens present in the air in order to analyze them in the laboratory. The objective is to identify the species responsible for allergies or likely to become so in the days to come.

Atmo Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, which monitors the region’s air quality, has been involved in this monitoring for more than fifteen years. Organized in partnership with the Regional Health Agency (ARS), the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), allergists in the region and the communities hosting the sensors, this monitoring allows:

•doctors to better diagnose an allergy in patients who come to consult them

•allergic people, who represent up to 30% of the population, to limit the effects of the allergy by taking preventive treatment at the start of the pollen peak

The results of these analyzes are disseminated every Friday via an allergy-pollen bulletin, enriched with observations and advice from allergists in the region.

The first information bulletin on allergy-pollen risk will be broadcast this Friday, January 31.

The first pollens expected in our region are those of trees, notably hazelnuts and alders, the start of pollination of which has already been confirmed by RNSA observations.

Other species, such as cypress and ash, already active around the Mediterranean, could soon appear. Birch, particularly allergenic, is observed on the sensors in March.
