Russian Daniil Medvedev, seeded No. 5, qualified for the second round of the Australian Open, winning three sets to two (6-2, 4-6, 3-6, 6-1 , 6-2) against Thai wild card Kasidit Samrej at Melbourne Park, Tuesday night session.
Medvedev, ranked 5th on the ATP, will face American qualifier Learner Tien in the second round of the Australian Grand Slam.
