He is 20h35 ce January 27, 2021 when Charlie Dalin crossed the finish line of the Vendée Globe as winner after 80 days, 6 hours, 15 minutes and 47 seconds of racing.

In his wake, Yannick Bestaven. The Nazairien crossed the finish line in the night at precisely 4:19 a.m.

But he benefits compensation of 10 hours 15 minutes after having to divert to help Kevin Escoffier.

This compensation game allows Yannick Bestaven to be declared the winner with a gap of 2h31 between the two skippers. The smallest gap ever recorded between the first two competitors in this legendary race.

On November 8, two days before the start of the 10th edition, Charlie Dalin spoke in front of our camera.

“When everything settled down a little, the following weeks, I realized that I had not been far from victory,” told us the skipper who did not see himself participating in the 2024 Vendée Globe without winning it this time.

Two hours or so wasn’t much. Plus, by crossing the finish line first. But now, not soon enough.

“I spent quite a few months, when I woke up at night, saying to myself, “damn, where did I waste these two and a half hours?” Redoing my maneuvers, redoing my strategic choices to trying to figure out where I wasted this time.”

Charlie Dalin will not have wasted time on this 2024-2025 edition. He quickly took the lead of the race and never gave up.

He crossed the finish line in Les Sables-d’Olonne this Tuesday, January 14 at 8:24 a.m. after 64 days, 19 hours, 22 minutes and 49 seconds spent at sea. A victory and a record at stake. Which is not to displease Armel Le Cléac’h, previous record holder of the event.

“SIf Charlie wins, his victory will be total, he will have fully deserved it. He will have had his revenge !“, told us Armel Le Cléac’h last week.

“I imagine what Charlie must be feeling right now. I’m reliving a little of what I experienced eight years ago. Like him, I had lost the previous edition by a few hours (facing Francois Gabart). So to start again and win in these circumstances, I know what it is and what it represents.”

At the start, Charlie was the big favorite, the pressure was enormous, he knew how to manage
