A 53-year-old woman was scammed out of 830,000 euros (around $1.2 million CAD) when she thought she was helping American actor Brad Pitt, reports South West .
It is a 53-year-old French woman, Anne, who was defrauded by scammers posing as American actor Brad Pitt.
During an interview on the show Seven to Eight on TF1Anne explained that she was contacted by the scammers in February 2023.
During this first exchange, the scammers made people believe they were Brad Pitt’s mother, Jane Etta Pitt.
The day after this discussion, a fake Brad Pitt then contacted Anne and said to her: “Hello Anne, my mother told me a lot about you. I would like to know more. »
Anne confided to TF1: “Actually, we’re talking about Brad Pitt, I’m amazed. At first, I tell myself that it’s fake, but I don’t really understand what’s happening to me. Afterwards, we will contact each other every day and we become friends. »
At the same time, Anne is going through a bad romantic patch with a millionaire entrepreneur 19 years her senior to whom she is married. So, knowing that an actor like Brad Pitt is interested in her gives her a certain pleasure.
Anne said that the fake actor even sent her poems and songs: “He knew how to talk to women, it was always very well spoken. »
In order to convince Anne of the identity of the fake Brad Pitt, the scammers used artificial intelligence to generate fake images and videos of the actor.
Subsequently, the fake Brad Pitt announced to Anne that he had bought her gifts, from luxury brands, but that she had to pay customs fees of 9,000 euros.
Anne paid the amount in question, but she never received anything.
Shortly after, the fake Brad Pitt asked him for 775,000 euros to treat alleged kidney cancer, explaining that he did not have access to his accounts due to his divorce from Anglina Jolie. As Anne had just obtained this sum following her divorce from her husband, she let herself be convinced by the false photos of the actor on a hospital bed.
In the summer of 2024, Anne comes across a press article where we can see Brad Pitt with his new partner. The Frenchwoman then suddenly realizes that she has been duped, and then she files a complaint.
According to what was reported TF1the woman is currently hospitalized in a specialized clinic.
