JOHANNESBURG – Acts of vandalism have left some residents in Pretoria East in the dark for the past few days.
Parts of Ashely Gardens and Alphen Park suburbs have been experiencing power failures due to cable theft and vandalism since Sunday.
The City of Tshwane said that the location of the site where the replacement of cables and repair work needs to be done was underneath the N1 highway.
Due to the challenging location, the Tshwane Emergency Service Department is currently conducting a risk assessment to ensure a safe working environment.
The city said that the area being worked on demands caution and informed residents it would take longer to complete the repair work due to the location of the fault.
“To date, progress made includes the identification of multiple faults on the network and isolating them. Currently, the city’s emergency services department is conducting a risk assessment to determine the situation’s safety. The city remains committed to speeding up the repair process,” said city spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.
