“What users really expect from OpenAI in 2025”

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, recently revealed a list of the most user-requested improvements for 2025. Through a simple question asked on X, he collected revealing feedback on what the public wants from artificial intelligence . Here is an overview of the key themes that emerged.

General artificial intelligence

Artificial general intelligence (AGI) occupies a central place in OpenAI users’ expectations for 2025.

This is artificial intelligence able to compete with humans in complex taskswithout being limited to particular areas such as web development for example. In other words, the AGI would be able to learn and reason globally. OpenAI and other leading companies in the field continue to lay the foundation for AGI by working on more advanced systems.

A priori, we should not hope to see its deployment this yeareven the most optimistic experts (like Dr. Ben Goertzel, creator of the term AGI) believe that this breakthrough could see the light of day by 2029.

Intelligent agents

Intelligent agents are second on the list of user expectations.

These automated and personalized bots perform many daily tasks such as managing diaries, ordering products online, rescheduling a missed appointment….

Their promise? Become true virtual personal assistants, capable of simplify daily life. Obviously, these agents can also be integrated into the professional world in particular to more easily manage the workflow or to coordinate teams among themselves.

The Operator Agent, OpenAI’s assistant, has not yet been officially presented but its launch seems imminent. Initially expected during the “12 days of OpenAI” event, it could be unveiled as early as January 2025.

A smoother user experience on ChatGPT

ChatGPT, one of OpenAI’s flagship services, remains at the heart of discussions, with many suggestions for improvements made by users.

These expectations are not limited to advanced technical improvements, but also aim to improve the ergonomics and personalization of the user experience. Among the most frequently cited points, we find:

  • An extended memory : one of the major requests concerns the ability of ChatGPT to remember past interactions over the long term in order to obtain more personalized responses;
  • A longer context : the character limit in the creation of the prompt is pointed out, users want it to be lengthened;
  • In-depth research : users are not necessarily satisfied with the relevance of the answers provided, they would like ChatGPT to do more research like a search engine;

New features for Sora

Sora, OpenAI’s AI video generator, caused a sensation when it was launched in 2024. This AI video generator quickly won over with its ability to produce quality videos in record time. However, despite this enthusiasm, there are still improvements to be added.

Overview of Sora’s interface

The main criticism concerns lack of advanced features which are found in competing solutions and which are not integrated into Sora.

If Sora wants to maintain his lead, he will have to evolve quickly and this is what is planned (a priori) for 2025.

What does OpenAI have in store for us in 2025?

The expectations shared by Sam Altman on the improvements desired for 2025 show significant enthusiasm for artificial intelligence and it seems that they have been heard by OpenAI, even if nothing has been stated on the company’s side.

Nevertheless, Sam Altman stated that “ some of the updates planned this year are not included in the list of user feedback“. OpenAI therefore works a priori on projects that we don’t even have any idea about!

And you, what improvements are you expecting this year?
