“After a phase of stability around €460/t in the first half”, the price of milk in the EU 27 has “taken off in the second half” of 2024, indicates Idele in its latest Milk-Meat Trends.

This surge is explained by a “marked increase in the price of milk in recent months in most European countries”, linked to several factors: “the tension on milk resources within the EU, the impacts of FCO-3tensions on the fat market.

While it fell in Spain throughout 2024, the price of milk rose to The Netherlands in October: + €125/t compared to October 2023, at €535/t. Same pattern in Poland: + €79/t over one year, to €517/t.

Significantly increasing since mid-2024, the price of standard milk reached €497/1,000 l in October in Germany (+€93/October 2023), i.e. €45 above the French pricewhose increase in recent months remains “much more moderate than elsewhere in Europe”.

The collection European dairy grew by 0.3% over the first ten months of 2024, with significant differences depending on the country, underlines Idele.

Ireland recorded a strong recovery in October (+14.8%/2023) after a difficult year, while Germany and the Netherlands suffered declines of 2.2% and 1.6% respectively per year. compared to October 2023, mainly because of the impact of FCO-3 and the unfavorable weather.
