Google will roll out an update for the Pixel 4a battery

The Pixel 4a, whose support ended several months ago, will benefit from an exceptional update. Google will roll out a patch to fix battery performance issues.

The Pixel 4a will benefit from a new update. Google is in fact sending an email to all smartphone owners to inform them of the upcoming deployment of a software update for its device. The smartphone, whose last major update dates back to 2020, but which nevertheless benefited from a corrective update in August 2023, will thus benefit from a new update. Please note, however, that this refresh will not bring any new functionality. It will mainly focus on stability and improving battery performance.

A compensation program for battery performance

« Google has determined that a software update is necessary on certain Pixel 4a phones to improve the stability of their battery performance. An automatic update to Android 13 will roll out to all Pixel 4a devices starting January 8, 2025. » explains Google on its website.

Google explains that the lithium-ion battery of its Pixel 4a was affected by performance problems. And the firm has taken matters into its own hands: it will automatically deploy, over the coming days, an update aimed at improving the autonomy of the devices concerned. The Mountain View company has also set up a replacement program for the Pixel 4a battery. You can check if your device is eligible by going to this page.

If your device is eligible, you will be eligible for a free battery replacement. However, this option does not seem to be offered in all countries. Google offers two other options for affected devices. If your Pixel 4a is affected by the problem, you can request a partial refund (around fifty dollars, or its equivalent in euros), or a discount on the purchase of a new Pixel.

To complete this request, you will first need to enter the IMEI of the device. You will then need to enter your email address, your postal address (and your country of residence), as well as your telephone number. Once the form is completed, Google indicates that you will be contacted within a few weeks to finalize the procedure.
