By analyzing this publication more closely, we first observe that all the municipalities cited by Météo Villes are located in Switzerland or in Doubs. It should therefore be clarified that this is not the Jura, but the Jura massif.
According to X and according to Météo France
By comparing the temperatures in this publication with Météo France data, we clearly observe a difference. In Chapelle-des-Bois, for example, temperatures went from -10°C to 6°C, while the temperature displayed on X is -23.9°C. In La Chaux, temperatures went from -13°C to 6°C according to Météo France, compared to -27.4°C according to the shared publication Guillaume Séchet. So why such differences? Because we find “cold holes” in these municipalities and the measurements shared on Elon Musk’s social network were made in these areas, where the meteorological situation is specific to the configuration of the place.
– 33.9°C in Combe Noire
In Mignovillard, the Combe Noire is one of these cold holes. Météo France recorded a temperature of -33.9°C during the night from Friday to Saturday. But the temperatures of these places are not representative of the temperatures on the scale of a department or a massif. Even in summer, it can be below zero degrees in this closed bowl, where the cold air remains on the ground. A temperature of -1.1°C was recorded in July 2022 at Combe Noire. The record for the last fifteen years dates back to the night of February 6, 2012, during which it was -41.6°C.
