The eldest son of President-elect Donald Trump will visit Greenland, the Danish Foreign Ministry said on Monday, two weeks after his father hinted at the sovereignty of the autonomous Danish territory.

Just before Christmas, Donald Trump said: For national security and freedom throughout the world, the United States of America believes that ownership and control of Greenland makes it an absolute necessity.

The government of the immense Arctic island then responded that it was not for sale, in accordance with its response to similar statements by Trump in 2019.

The visit of Donald Trump Jr., no details of which have been made public, is private, a Greenlandic diplomat, Mininnguaq Kleist, told Danish public television DR.

According to Mr. Kleist, Donald Trump Jr., known to be very close to his father, should not meet Greenlandic officials during his stay.
