A solidarity fund has been opened to help a couple from Bas-Rhin to replace their campervan which burned down on New Year’s Eve. More than 4,000 euros have already been collected out of a goal of 15,000 euros.

« This first January in Sélestat our camper van was set on fire. It was old, but worked very well. We were going on vacation thanks to this acquisition “, these are the bitter words written in description of a online prize pool created at the start of 2025. This bears the evocative name : “Paulette and Denis camper van fire”.

“They had to make many sacrifices to afford it”
In fact, the couple of Bas-Rhin saw his vehicle disappear in smoke during New Year’s Eve night. Woke up around 1 a.m. by a neighbor, they could do nothing. An article from Latest News from Alsace published on January 2 tells their story: “ The retirees bought their used vehicle five years ago by taking out a loan. The former metalworker and the ex-temp worker had made many sacrifices to have the pleasure of hitting the road behind the wheel of their camper van. »
Gather and fund to buy one again
For this purpose, and for buy a new motorhomean online prize pool has been created. The initiative comes from Édouard Faller, Paulette’s occasional employer, touched by the event. As of Monday January 6, the two Bas-Rhinois have collected 4,327 euros out of the 15,000 euros hoped for. Solidarity is there, accompanied by messages of support : « Courage !! Despite what happened, I wish you the best for this new year! The most important thing, health and love! See you soon. »
