Author of a test which was not enough, Romaric Camou, the Vannes winger, does not want to give up. He points out the next challenges and calls for the “winning” spirit to be rediscovered.
Romaric, is this still a match that reflects the season?
Yes, we are not far but we are losing. Now the points we are missing are expensive, the gap is widening. It hurts my head to lose this match. Especially since we had a lot of opportunities to win, to score, we didn’t score. These are things that we usually master, the touch, the launches, that’s what is even more frustrating. The next match is Stade Français, we know that it is a pivotal match. We are told that we are no longer in control of our destiny but we will see. It’s certain that in three weeks we don’t win, it’s going to be very complicated. It’s a lot of disappointment tonight but we believe in it.
This type of match still makes you grow despite its cruelty, in the end?
Yes, we knew that Clermont is a team with big, massive players. We knew what to expect. We had prepared for this match on the physical challenge. But we have to relearn how to win. We can’t be satisfied with that because afterwards it’s a spiral. It’s a state of mind to have, we have to become competitors at the first level again. There are always strong moments and weak moments in a match, we cannot do 80 minutes of highlights, that would be too easy. We didn’t have any air gaps, Clermont had some strong moments. At half-time we were good, even if it was bad it would have been better. I remain convinced that in the second half we have all the cartridges to go ahead, but we miss them… Each time we put a lot of energy into scoring points, on the contrary we concede points too easily. We whip to score points, we take them too easily, that’s what hurts the head and is hard to take.
There are these three penalties rather than taking the points in the second half…
If the touch is well executed, will we say “well done”? Afterwards if we score three points, there is a camp exit to assume, they come back to our camp. We will never know what the right choice was. There it is certain that it is the wrong choice because we do not ensure the touch and we make mistakes on it. That proves right those who think we should take the points, but I remain convinced that if we do things well, we should score. We have to get ahead, we have to win this match.
