Is this a good sign for the Oscars? Nominated in 10 categories, the musical by French director Jacques Audiard, Emilia Perez, succeeded in its bet by leaving with a few precious Golden Globes on the night of January 5 to 6, 2025. The film, Jury Prize winner at the last Cannes Film Festival, tells the story of a Mexican drug lord (played by trans actress Karla Sofía Gascón) who changes her life and becomes a woman. This film, almost entirely shot in Spanish, features two big stars – Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña – and transcends cinema genres, notably between the thriller and the telenovela.
If we had to count the cocoricos for this evening, let’s also note the beautiful performance of the uncompromising horror film by French director Coralie Fargeat, The Substancewhich earned Hollywood legend Demi Moore the first major award of her career.
Besides cinema, let’s not forget that, unlike the Oscars, the Golden Globes also reward television productions.
