A young man of Martinican origin “hit to death” in Angers

Matthias, a young man aged 23 and born in , was killed Thursday January 2 inside the Saint-Laud station in . Four suspects are actively sought.

If the circumstances and motives inherent in this tragedy remain to be clarified, an argument apparently broke out on January 2 between Matthias and several individuals, on the upper square of the station.

More precisely, the young man would have found himself faced with “four people“, he then took refuge inside the station, where he was beaten. According to Eric Bouillard, the public prosecutor of Angers, “multiple blows with blunt object(s)“would have reached Matthias. The magistrate also speaks of “two attackers“, equipped with “hammers“.

The young man was allegedly beaten to death by these people. Despite the intervention of emergency services, he did not survive his injuries.

According to our colleagues from Ouest-, Matthias was born in Martinique and was going to be a father.

Opened for murder, the investigation was entrusted to the Organized and Specialized Crime Division. The technical and scientific police carried out the identification of clues, the authorities searched for the objects which would have been used in the attack on the young man and the video surveillance images had to be analyzed.

The four suspects are actively being sought, but none of them has yet been arrested. The autopsy was to be carried out on Friday January 3. A date on which around thirty relatives of Matthias gathered at the scene of the events and placed flowers and candles in tribute to the young man, described by them as “calm, cheerful and protective“.

According to our colleagues from France 3 this Sunday January 5, the investigation “has not undergone any major development“since the facts.

Furthermore, the Angers public prosecutor’s office evokes a drama which took place “in a context of drug trafficking“, several people involved in this affair having been identified as “gravitating in this sphere“.

Technical work in progress “has not yet made it possible to question the accused”, the Angers public prosecutor said on January 5.
