Just over three years after a major fire burned the wooden structure of the previous Minnewasta Golf Clubhouse, located west of Morden, a new fire has caused considerable damage to the new clubhouse, as well as at the restaurant and banquet hall, which had just opened their doors to the public for their first events. A festive opening reception was held on New Year’s Eve.
Morden EMS responded early Sunday morning, with assistance from Winkler and Plum Coulee firefighters, who were called in to assist. Witnesses told PembinaValleyOnline that the fire began to break out as early as 2 a.m.
As General Manager and Head Professional Greg Hesom reported in an article published by PembinaValleyOnline in early November 2024, the new building included a 160-person banquet space and a 50-seat catering area, which could be combined for more important events. It also featured the Minnewasta Golf and Country Club shop, golf simulators and a patio that could accommodate up to 100 people.
Firefighters were still on scene Sunday morning, while police blocked access to the Minnewasta Golf Club area.
At this time, no additional information is available.
On November 20, 2021, a fire broke out inside the old clubhouse, which had been moved to the golf course several years earlier. The cause of this fire was announced at the beginning of January 2022 and was judged to be of electrical origin.
PembinaValleyOnline has dispatched a reporter to the site and will provide updates as the situation evolves.
