INVESTIGATION – More and more French people want to return to live in France, while keeping their jobs across the Channel. While some have succeeded, others are still struggling to make their project a reality due, in particular, to legal obligations.
Alice has lived in the United Kingdom for four years but recently decided to return to France to be closer to her family. “I miss my parents, and I have the impression of not fully experiencing my expatriation since moving to London”explains the 30-year-old young woman.
Holder of a temporary resident permit, she knows that if she is absent from British territory for more than six months, she will lose her rights to apply for permanent resident status and, possibly, British nationality. This is why she plans to continue working in England, but without informing the tax services or her boss. “I want to keep my job so that I can continue to pay taxes here and be able to prove that I maintains a link with the United Kingdom »says the young woman.
A significant risk
The Frenchwoman has already studied the question. A graphic designer for a British company, she only has to go to the office once a week.
