The league rejects the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor by Barça

In a blow to FC Barcelona, La Liga authorities have rejected the club’s attempts to register midfielder Dani Olmo and striker Victor ahead of the second half of the current season.

The duo, who were signed last summer, were only allowed to play until the end of December due to the league’s strict salary cap policies. With this latest decision, the immediate future of both players is now uncertain, with a possible sidelining until the summer transfer market opens, further complicating their professional paths. Notably, speculation surrounds Olmo’s future, with suggestions that the talented midfielder could consider leaving the Camp Nou.

Aged 26, Olmo has been a key part of Hansi Flick’s side since his move from RB Leipzig, a move which cost the Catalan giants around £51million. His impressive performances, particularly during Spain’s victorious European Championship campaign last summer, have not escaped observers. On the other hand, 23-year-old Pau Victor, who previously showed his talents at Girona, has mostly stuck to playing from the bench in the Spanish top division this season.

A joint statement issued by the Spanish Federation (RFEF) and La Liga clearly articulated the reason for rejecting Barcelona’s application, stating: “The monitoring committee agrees not to grant the prior approval or definitive license requested by FC Barcelona for players Daniel Olmo Carvajal and Pau Victor Delgado.” This stance highlights the challenges clubs like Barcelona face as they navigate the complexities of financial regulations.

Although the RFEF and La Liga acknowledged the positive progress Barcelona has made in improving its financial health, they reiterated that league rules prohibit a club from re-registering a player in the same season after his registration was previously canceled. The move comes after several legal rejections of Barcelona’s previous appeals to register the duo.

Despite the obstacles, reports suggest that Barcelona intend to step up their efforts by filing a complaint with the Spanish government in the hope of extending the registrations of both players, although the club has remained silent on the latest developments.

Currently, Barcelona sit third in La Liga, five points behind fierce rivals Real Madrid in the title race.
