The Sûreté du Québec is investigating the death of a newborn in Saint-Gilles, in Lotbinière.

Emergency services were called at around 4.30am on Saturday morning.

According to the SQa two-day-old baby was found unresponsive. He was transported to the CHUL in Quebec, where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy will be carried out.

Investigators from the major crimes division of the SQ and forensic identification technicians were dispatched to the scene. As of this writing, the scene is still in progress.
