Romeo Lavia still too short: Enzo Maresca’s update – All football

Roméo Lavia must be patient at Chelsea. The Red Devil is on the comeback, but the staff will not take any risks.

Today, at around 4 p.m., Chelsea travel to Crystal Palace for their first match in 2025. A meeting that comes a little early for Roméo Laviawho has returned to training but is not yet 100% available.

The Red Devil have been on the sidelines since the start of December, missing four league games (Chelsea have only won one).

Precious but fragile

Enzo Maresca spoke about him at a press conference: “We all consider Romeo to be a top player, but the most important thing for him is that he is fit. If he is, we will certainly be a better team with him. We just have to figure out how we can help him stay injury-free.”

After its last almost blank season, the last few months have however been more positive for Lavia, who managed to continue in October and November. It is not unusual to see Chelsea protecting him in the face of such a busy schedule.

Maresca, on the other hand, had more worries concerning Wesley Fofana : the French defender was also injured at the beginning of December. The Blues hoped to find him after a few weeks, but Fofana may well have to give up on the entire second half of the season, having already spent the entire last exercise in the infirmary.
