The midfielder hangs up his boots at the age of 38, after having participated in two World Cups and three editions of the Copa América with the Colombian national team.
Carlos ‘La Roca’ Sánchez retired from professional Football at the age of 38, after a successful career which ended at Barracas Central in the Argentine First Division. The midfielder immediately took on a new role in the sport, joining one of Argentina’s big five football clubs.
Sánchez is now the Director of Football at San Lorenzo de Almagro, a club he has been associated with for a year and a half since 2023, having joined the team as a player following his time at Independiente Santa Fe, his only experience in the Colombian football.
“Welcome, Carlos! Carlos La Roca Sánchez, former player of the club with an impressive international career, has signed his contract and is the new Director of Football at San Lorenzo. We wish you great success!” the club said on its social networks.

La Roca have already participated in the club’s first recruitment for 2025, securing midfielder Emanuel Cecchini, who joined the club on a transfer fee and signed for one season. Sánchez posed with the team’s new recruit.
Regarding his international career, La Roca has participated in two World Cups (2014 and 2018), three Copa América tournaments (2011, 2015 and the Centennial) and three World Cup qualifiers (2010, 2014 and 2018 ).
