Dakar, January 5 (APS) – Habib Diarra and Ibrahima Niane, scorers for their team in the French Ligue 1, were the most prominent among the Senegalese footballers playing in the various European championships, while their compatriots in the Premier League remained rather discreet.

The young captain scored his fourth goal of the season in Ligue 1, during his team’s big victory (3-1) against , in a match counting for the 16e day of Ligue 1 football, the French elite championship.

The 23-year-old midfielder scored from a penalty in added time of the first period (49e). His teammate and compatriot Daouda Diongue, 18, entered in the last minute of the match. Strasbourg occupies 10th place in the ranking.

Ibrahima Niane, member of (), also scored against (12e) by Abdallah Sima. Returned to 76e minute of the match, Niane scored his team’s second goal, his third of the season. Angers won 2-0 and occupies 14the place in the general classification of Ligue 1.

Monaco of Lamine Camara and Krépin Diatta lost the final of the 48e edition of the Champions Trophy against Saint-Germain (0-1). Camara played the last 19 minutes of the game. Injured in the groin, Diatta did not play this match.

The Champions Trophy is an annual competition between the French Ligue 1 champion and the winner of the Coupe de France.

In French Ligue 2, Aliou Badji (Red Star) scored for the third time this season against . He unfortunately missed a penalty in the 83rde mn.

Senegalese players playing in the English Premier League were rather discreet this weekend.

Pape Matar Sarr and Tottenham (12e), forced to a draw (2-2) by Wolverhampton last week, recorded a third defeat in the last four matches against Newcastle on Saturday. Sarr, starter for this match counting for the 20the day, came out at 62e minute.

Chelsea (4e) by Nicolas Jackson and Crystal Palace (15e) by Ismaila Sarr drew (1-1) on Saturday. The two Senegalese internationals were both starters. Jackson, who has not scored for four days, remains on a total of nine league goals.
