January price barometer: downward trend confirmed
Like every month for 5 years already, Ariase has just published its price barometer concerning the mobile plan market and that of Internet Boxes. On the mobile side, there is a historic drop of almost 40%. But even though this trend is less on the Box side, we are happy to see that now, an entry-level fiber optic subscription costs on average only €26.61 instead of €32.38 last January. This represents a decrease of 17.8%, and above all a significant saving of €70 per year!
Several factors contribute to this very welcome price drop. First of all, new offers have appeared in the last few weeks in the inexpensive Box section:
- Orange released “Just Fibre”, its first dual-play offer (without decoder or associated TV bouquet), in order to compete with Bbox Fit, RED Box, and “La Boîte” from Sosh,
- et B&You a lancé “Pure Fibre”, an innovative one-play offer (without decoder or telephony) which focuses everything on ultra-high speed at low prices.
But above all, after Black Friday in November, Internet service providers have all played the game of Christmas promotions, between free subscription months and free service opening fees…
2 months free at Orange and Sosh
This is the nice surprise at the start of the year: Orange and its 100% digital discount subsidiary Sosh have decided to extend the exceptional offer put in place during the holidays.
These are therefore 2 months free subscription which await you with both operators, regardless of the subscription chosen (or almost), and without changing anything in the promotional rates for the first months. Only the “Livebox + smart TV” pack and the offer reserved for under 26s are not eligible for this refund request, which will take place from the 2nd or 3rd invoice. We can therefore save at least €40 for the cheapest subscriptions, and up to 70€ for Premium: Livebox Max.
Opening fees for services offered at SFR and RED by SFR
At SFR, the brand with the red square, as at RED by SFR, the brand with the green square, the strategy is different: both have chosen to facilitate migration by offering service opening fees in addition to the usual reimbursement of termination fees (up to €100). Here again, this gift will be valid on all available subscriptions, without exception. We will therefore save €39 at RED by SFR, and €49 at SFR. A fixed discount, and not proportional to the price of the chosen subscription.
The most difficult thing will therefore be to choose. The RED Box has the advantage of being non-binding and offering a fixed floor price which does not change after a year, making it the most economical offer on the market. However, it promises 1 Gb/s of symmetrical speed, significantly higher than its closest competitors! But for those who absolutely want the decoder and associated TV services, it is indeed the SFR Starter Box which turns out to be the cheapest of all the triple-play Boxes entry-level.
