After the snow and ice, a spectacular warm spell took place in France on Sunday January 5. In one night, temperatures rose very quickly: +14°C in Paris and a record for Doubs with a difference of 30°C in just a few hours.

Frost on the floors and windshields of yesterday compared to melted snow today, Sunday January 5. A spectacular warm spell sets in. Some cities have gained more than ten degrees. In in the Rhône, + 15°C in 24 hours, enough to relax on the deckchairs or go running for the bravest. The whole country is concerned. Between yesterday and today, the town of (Yonne) gained 18°C, in Allier experienced an increase of 17°C, 15°C more for Alençon (Orne), and even + 25 °C at Pontet in Doubs. The village went from -19°C yesterday to +6°C today. As a result, no snowfall but freezing rain which left up to 5 cm of frost on the roads.

A sudden change in temperature which is common for France: “France, by its geographical location, is at the crossroads of different air masses. There are often northern flows coming down from the British Isles or Scandinavia. And much warmer flows also come up from the Maghreb or the Iberian Peninsula”explains a forecaster.
