Samsung wants to bring televisions into a new era thanks to AI. On the occasion of its “First Look” conference, on the sidelines of the consumer tech show CES (Consumer Electronic Show), which opens its doors this Tuesday in Las Vegas, the South Korean giant unveiled Vision AI. Behind this name hide new features to make screens more “intelligent”. “Samsung considers televisions not as single-use devices intended for passive use, but as interactive and intelligent assistants that adapt to the needs of each and everyone,” explains in a press release SW Yong, president and head of the Visual Display Business division at Samsung Electronics.

Among the technologies presented is the Click to Search image recognition system. This feature is reminiscent of the “Surround to Find” tool on Android devices. It allows the user to obtain instant information on what is displayed on the screen, whether it is the identity of an actor, the dish they are eating or even the city where the action of the film or series takes place.

With the other Live Translate feature, Samsung wants to help eliminate language barriers by offering a real-time subtitle tool capable of transcribing the text into the user’s language.

In addition to automatic picture and sound quality enhancement features, Samsung also unveiled Home Insights, which displays real-time home security alerts, as well as Pet and Family Care. The latter makes it possible to monitor unusual behavior of pets and family members, with, for example, the ability to dim the lights when a child falls asleep.
