More than three weeks later the death of young Barbara in her apartment in Avignon (Vaucluse)a man in his thirties was arrested on December 25 in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He was the subject of a European arrest warrant issued by the Avignon public prosecutor’s office, suspected of having been in contact with the 24-year-old victim, a few hours before his death on December 10.
The violent death of the young woman, in her studio a stone’s throw from the Place de l’Horloge in the center of Avignon, would have occurred following strangulation, as indicated in the autopsy report. The investigation into “murder, acts of torture and barbarity by an organized gang” had been entrusted to the Organized and Specialized Crime Division (DCOS). According to initial information, the young woman consumed drugs at home the weekend before her death with other people.
The victim showed signs of swelling on her face and was partially undressed, which initially suggested that she may have been a victim of rape. A hypothesis finally ruled out by the autopsy.
Actively sought by the police, this thirty-year-old, arrested by the Dutch police, shared the last moments of young Barbara’s life. He is still imprisoned in the Netherlands since Christmas.
