In an economic context marked by inflation, the used vehicle market in France experienced a clear inflection in 2024, according to the latest barometer published by leboncoin Automotive. This trend, which began in September 2023, continued throughout the past year.
Average prices of used vehicles have fallen by around €1,000 between December 2023 and December 2024, going from €16,212 to €15,291. While this trend concerns all transactions, electric and hybrid vehicles are particularly affected. The average price of an electric vehicle has fallen by €3,000 (€26,895 in December 2023 compared to €23,864 in December 2024), reflecting a desire by professionals to make these vehicles more accessible despite the reduction in government bonuses.
A market under pressure for recent vehicles
Vehicles less than two years old, often more expensive, are the most affected by this price drop, especially at the individual level (-3,800 euros), while vehicles more than eight years old maintain relative stability. This situation is explained by the growing demand for affordable vehicles in a constrained economic context.
The prices of vehicles sold by professionals have fallen more than those sold by individuals, a sign of the efforts made by dealers to adapt to the market. However, the last quarter of 2024 saw an overall stabilization of prices.
Note, however, price differences which remain significant between professionals and individuals: 3000 euros for used vehicles aged 2 years, 1500 euros for used vehicles between 5 and 8 years old and 4300 euros for used vehicles over 8 years old. !
