The firefighters were alerted last night around 10 p.m., because smoke was coming out of the windows of a house in Nîmes, Chemin du Quartier d’Espagne.

Despite sending a large detachment (23 firefighters and 10 intervention vehicles), when help arrived, the house was completely engulfed in flames.

A 60-year-old man was found deceased at the scene. The police have opened an investigation to establish the exact circumstances of this tragedy.

Firefighters from SDIS 30 remained on site for three hours to clear the rubble and deal with any possible resurgence of the fire.
