Press release from Aurélien Dutremble, RN deputy for Saône-et-Loire, following the multiple outbreaks of fires on New Year’s Eve.
Delinquency in Saône-et-Loire: Restoring order and protecting our territories
On the night of December 31 to January 1, Saône-et-Loire was the scene of arson attacks in Mâcon, Autun, Le Creusot and other municipalities marking a start to the year marked by violence and insecurity. Burning trash cans, burned vehicles, and damage to local heritage, such as the Le Creusot sledgehammer: these unacceptable acts reflect a worrying escalation in delinquency hitting our communities.
Strong condemnation of violence
As a Member of Parliament, I condemn in the strongest terms these acts of vandalism, which undermine the safety of residents and degrade local heritage, a symbol of the identity and history of our territories. I express all my solidarity to our affected compatriots, as well as to the police and firefighters who courageously intervened to contain these fires.
A government responsibility
These events are not isolated, but symptomatic of a growing climate of insecurity. They reveal the abandonment of territories by a State incapable of guaranteeing public order and tranquility. The current policy, which is lax in dealing with delinquents, leaves our communities and their residents helpless in the face of repeated violence.
Immediate measures and lasting solutions
In accordance with the commitments of the National Rally, I reaffirm the need for strong measures to respond to this security emergency: Strengthen the resources of law enforcement, apply exemplary sanctions to perpetrators of urban violence, restore the authority of municipalities by allocating more resources for local authorities to secure public spaces and strengthen their autonomy in crisis management.
A call to action
Faced with these events, I call on the responsibility of the government to provide immediate responses commensurate with the situation. It is urgent to restore sovereignty and order in our territories, to protect residents and to support local elected officials in their mission.
The time has come to give the French people the security they deserve, everywhere and for everyone!
