Dakar, Jan 3 (APS) – Indignation is the most shared feeling among residents of La Médina and Colobane, Dakar neighborhoods where the APS questioned them on Friday about the murder of a 12-year-old girl. in Malika (west).

This highly publicized drama that occurred on the night of December 31 on New Year's Day moved many Senegalese people.

The news of the girl's murder saddens Modou Sarr, a father found near the file automation directorate, on rue 6 in La Médina. ''Rape is a criminal and despicable act. When it is followed by murder, it deeply outrages me,” says Mr. Sarr.

According to information published in the press, the theory of rape was ruled out by investigators after the results of the autopsy carried out on the remains, the 12-year-old girl having died of strangulation.

For the acts of rape, if they were retained, the alleged culprit risks a sentence of up to life imprisonment due to the toughening in 2010 of the penalties required for rape and pedophilia.

''Parents must be extra vigilant, because we live in a society where values are gradually being lost. Violence and acts that border on barbarism are gaining ground,'' he is indignant, believing that the tragedy that occurred in Malika challenges Senegalese society.

Astou Diarra, met on rue 11 in La Médina, said she was ''very affected'' by the girl's murder. ''How does a grown man […] can he commit such acts on a 12-year-old girl?'', asks this lady, saying she learned with astonishment of Malika's tragedy.

''The perpetrator of the crime must be severely punished, so that all those who would be tempted to commit similar acts are deterred,'' she insists.

In Colobane, a stone's throw from the Place de la Nation, Oumar Sow, a mechanic aged around 40, feels the same indignation and demands exemplary punishment from the alleged culprit of the girl's murder. ''This individual deserves life imprisonment,'' he says, inviting parents to be extra vigilant for the protection of their children.

''At nightfall, it is more prudent to forbid our children, especially girls, from going out. They must be forbidden even from going to the local store,'' recommends Mr. Sow.

''This tragedy reminds us how careful we must be''

To avoid criminal acts of this nature, Abdou Faye, saddened by the New Year's drama, has a clear-cut proposal. ''Anyone guilty of intentional homicide deserves the death penalty. This is the ideal solution to curb crime in this country,'' he suggests.

El Hadj Ba, met at the Colobane BRT station, shares Mr. Faye's proposal. ''The death penalty must be reintroduced against the perpetrators of crimes of this type,'' he suggests.

Awa, a teenager, is deeply upset when she learns of the tragedy that happened to Malika. ''It touches me personally. This tragedy reminds us how careful we girls must be,” she said in a voice full of emotion.

According to several media, the alleged murderer of the young girl was arrested and allegedly confessed to the facts for which he was arrested.
