Spanish justice requested 19 years in prison against the Aveyron resident for acts dating back to June 2023.

It was on the night of June 10 to 11, 2023: a young man then aged 22 from Aveyron was returning from Spain with more than 16 kilos of drugs in the trunk of his car, including 15 kilos of cannabis, reports L'Indépendant taking information from Cadena Ser.

But shortly after crossing the border, he found himself facing a road check set up by the French border police at the Boulou toll barrier.

The young trafficker from Aveyron will then decide to turn around and drive in the opposite direction towards Spain on the A9 motorway, then the Spanish AP-7. What he will do for about fifteen kilometers. But barely 700 meters after crossing the Spanish border, the Aveyron trafficker turned driver will collide head-on with a car traveling in the opposite direction, instantly killing its driver, a 61-year-old Pole.

A heavy sentence required

Arrested by the Catalan police after this fatal accident, he was placed in detention in Girona where he has been waiting to be tried. At the beginning of January 2025, approximately 18 months after the events, the Spanish justice system requested 19 years in prison against him for drug trafficking and homicide, a driving ban for 10 years, plus a fine of nearly €65,000. He will also have to compensate the victim's family (his mother, his wife and his two daughters) to the amount of €400,000.
