A serious road accident cost the lives of two women this Friday, January 3, 2025, near L'Aigle, in Orne. The two victims, alone in their respective vehicles, collided head-on. An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
A deadly face-to-face in the middle of the morning
According to France 3, the accident occurred around 9:30 a.m., at a place called Le Nouveau-Monde, in the town of La Chapelle Viel. On the D930, two cars collided head-on. On board each vehicle was a woman, one aged 30, the other 60 years old.
When help arrived, the two drivers were still trapped in the passenger compartment. No less than 17 firefighters, from the centers of L'Aigle, Bourth, Longny, Mortagne and Argentan, were mobilized to try to rescue them. The SMUR of L'Aigle and that of Mortagne were also dispatched to the scene.
Despite the efforts made, the two women were pronounced dead late in the morning.
A dark series which continues on the roads of Orne
This accident is added to a series of tragedies which have devastated the roads of Orne. The month of December had already been marked by six deaths. In 2024, 27 people lost their lives in road accidents in the department, compared to 21 the previous year.
