Beware of indigestion, here is a potential new information on the Switch 2 of Nintendo. At the same time, this is quite normal since the announcement of the console is imminent. We are talking about a presentation in January for a release on March 28, 2025. Here, it is not a leak like that of the motherboard of the device which made it possible to confirm several points of its technical sheet . It is a patent filed in July 2023, but made public on December 31, 2024, which interests us.

Let’s be clear: it does not mention the Switch 2 directly since it deals with a system potentially applicable on other platforms. But given what we already know about the machine and what the document says, the latter has every chance of integrating it.

In summary, Nintendo is talking about a technology capable of “convert images from one resolution to another resolution (for example superior) and can be used in real-time applications from images generated, for example, by a video game engine“.

The Switch 2 would improve game graphics thanks to this system

As an example, the Japanese manufacturer takes a 540p image displayed in 1080p pour “increased graphic fidelity“. Do not assume that the Switch 2 will only display Full HD. Nintendo specifies: “whenever 1080p is mentioned in relation to a target image, the techniques […] can also be applied to images 4K“.

Unsurprisingly, it is theartificial intelligence who is at maneuver to make games more pleasing to the eye, a bit like the PS5 Pro with its PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution).

The patent states that the system would also be used to reduce the size of filesso that they fit on a relatively smaller physical medium“. A wording that immediately brings to mind cards from Switch games. Even if we have to wait for the release of the Switch 2 to confirm it, we note that unlike other patents with very little chance of seeing the light of day, this one could materialize very soon.
