Two German police officers were injured, one seriously, after an explosion Thursday evening at the fence of a police building in a district of Berlin, police in the German capital said.
“This evening, around 8:20 p.m., a serious security incident occurred at the fence” of this building in the Wittenau district, in the north of Berlin, during which an officer and an officer were injured, police said on X.
They were then participating in “a routine security patrol,” said the police. “According to initial investigations, a then unidentified object exploded, causing serious injuries to the face and eyes of the agent,” the police further indicated.
A “sonic trauma”
The agent was the victim of “noise trauma”. Both were treated medically. The criminal police were assigned to carry out the investigation. Questioned by AFP, a police spokesperson provided no further information on the incident.
This incident comes after New Year’s Eve during which 30 German law enforcement officers were injured, one seriously. The latter was hit by an illegally manufactured firework.
Five people died accidentally on New Year’s Eve in Germany while lighting powerful fireworks, and around 400 people were arrested in the capital, according to the latest report from the authorities on Wednesday.
