It is one of the best-known French cinema voices: that of the actor Alain Dorval, who died last year, who dubbed Sylvester Stallone. This voice was recreated using artificial intelligence for the upcoming action film “Armor”. And this raises concerns and criticism.
Alain Dorval, who dubbed 48 Sylvester Stallone films, died last February. But Sylvester Stallone’s next film offers a strangely similar voice in French, created by artificial intelligence. Its mixed result made the deceased actor’s daughter, Minister Aurore Bergé, jump. “I gave my consent for a test. Only a test. I never validated such a broadcast. And my father would never have validated it as it stands”she wrote on X.
The emergence of AI in the world of dubbing worries the profession which demonstrated last month: 5,000 actors, 15,000 jobs in total. “The voice will be stolen by the AI and spat out. The risk is that we don’t know what we’re spitting out”alarms dubbing actress Brigitte Lecordier. After the release of this trailer, the American studio announced that Stallone would be dubbed by a real human voice.
