It was an open secret: Squid Game will return for a third season. Netflix has officially announced that the project is scheduled for 2025.
After having finished the year perfectly by devouring season 2 of their series, fans of “Squid Game” are starting the next with good news: the American platform has announced the release of a third season, in 2025.
While the second season of the global hit “Squid Game” has been available for several days (December 26), Netflix has announced the upcoming release of a third set of episodes.
An announcement which quickly aroused strong reactions from viewers, very enthusiastic at the idea of a return of the adventures of Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae).
A global phenomenon, a logical extension
It must be said that the series can count on record popularity. After having already panicked all the counters for its first opus, “Squid Game” once again hit the headlines with its return. This time, the series has 68 million views, the best total for a series in its first week. It is already the seventh most popular non-English-speaking series in the history of the platform.
The series’ director, Hwang Dong-hyuk, pre-empted Netflix’s official announcement by telling Variety: “At this point, anything I could say would be a spoiler, so I want to be careful, but what I can say is that after season 2 launches, I think we will announce the launch date for season 3 soon. I probably expect it to launch around summer or next fall.
He even clarified by giving some spoilers: “As for the storyline of the third season, Gi-hun having lost everything, including his best friend, and all his attempts failing, the question is: In what state will Gi-hun find himself? And what will he choose to do? Will he continue the mission? Will he give up or persist? You will discover our character, Gi-hun, at a crucial moment at the start of the third season. Gi-hun will no longer be the man he was in season 2.
