A touch of snow to start the year 2025

While we have just celebrated the New Year, France is preparing to welcome its first snowflakes of the year 2025. Indeed, from this Thursday, January 2, the country could experience a light snowy episode. The northeastern regions of the countrybut also potentially Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Nord-pas-de-Calais could be affected.

Snowfall expected

According to the weather forecast, snow showers should start to fall very early in the morning in Upper , Île-de-France and the Ardennes. However, “there, it won’t hold”reassures meteorologist Guillaume Séchet. The snow front is then expected to move eastward, where current conditions are more conducive to snow.

A white cover but not thick

Don't expect a thick white coat. “We don't expect much snow either, about one cm on the ground, not much more. It will whiten”warns the meteorologist. The founder of the Météo-Villes site, with the weather models in front of him, however excludes the Alsace plain and the Saône valley from these forecasts.

Forecasts still uncertain for the weekend

What does the weekend hold? Weather models are not unanimous. Some predict the return of snowfall as early as Saturday, particularly in Nord-Pas-de-Calais and/or Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, in addition to the northeast. Others believe the snow should develop more at the end of the weekend. In any case, the start of 2025 could be blank for a good number of French people.
