The Grenoble metropolitan area is preparing to experience its first major revolution in terms of mobility.
This January 1, 2025, the Low Emission Zone (ZFE) excludes Crit'Air 3 vehicles from its perimeter. That is more than 75,000 vehicles recorded in the Grenoble urban area.
A real revolution, which was not obligatory but which the Metropolis decided to maintain. And which risks doing damage.
The objective is to exclude the most polluting vehicles from the 14 municipalities which form the Grenoble ZFE.
The ban on driving and parking lasts from Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. It is therefore possible to travel in the evening, on weekends and on public holidays, whatever your vehicle.
Several months of education are planned, before the distribution of the first fines of 68 euros from June 1, 2025.
The Crit'Air sticker, which classifies vehicles according to their polluting emissions of fine particles and nitrogen oxides, is not delivered with the car; you must request it on the dedicated government site.
Please note that many exemptions are available:
- Daily pass – 12 days per year” for everyone whatever the reason Any vehicle can be the subject of a daily exemption request within the limit of 12 days/rolling year. Applicants must make the request on the Grenoble-Alpes Métropole online application space each time they use it.
- “Small driver” exemption (vehicle driving less than 5,000 km per year)
- Exemption for regular medical appointments in health establishments (at least 6 times a year; in clinics or hospitals).
- Exemption for workers working irregular hours Exemption for the vehicles of people whose working hours do not allow them to use public transport, that is to say for people who, for at least 52 days per year, start their professional activity before 6:30 a.m. or finish after 7:30 p.m.
- Exemption known as “non-ZFE worker”, for residents of the ZFE working outside the ZFE and not having a public transport option on their home-work journey…
