Cross-country skiing: third career podium for Edvin Anger
The year is off to a good start for Edwin Anger. In the classic pursuit on New Year’s Day in Toblach (Italy), the Swede scored his first World Cup distance podium. He started the race in fourteenth position, just over a minute behind the Norwegian Harald Oestberg Amundsen. He finished second just 2.5 seconds behind. A real performance. When crossing the finish line, he raised his arms as if he had won.
His second place in this demanding format is a real surprise for someone who is considered more of a sprinter. This podium is his third career, but the first for Sweden on this Tour de Ski.
“It’s absolutely incredible. He shows how good he is. It was only a matter of time before he could also distinguish himself at distance. He really deserves what’s happening to him.”congratulated his teammate William Poromaa in the columns ofThe Express.
During the last descent towards the stadium, Edwin Anger even stood up Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo who tried to get rid of his annoying neighbor. But the tall blond did not give in and, on the last small climb, it was he who got away from the five-time Olympic champion.
Overall, he takes the elevator and is now just behind the leader Johannes Hoesflot Klæbo. Thirty-six seconds separate the two men. “It’s wonderful to see”exclaimed Anna-Karin StrömstedtViaplay consultant.
For the moment, as recalled The evening ballthe best Swede on the Ski Tour is not yet officially selected for the Nordic World Ski Championships in Trondheim (Norway). Alone Jonna Sundling, Ebba Andersson, Johanna Hagstroem et Frida Karlsson got their ticket. “Edvin is our best sprinter. He’ll probably go to the Worlds, if nothing untoward happens.”reassured him Anders Bystroemthe boss of the national team. So much the better, because, as the athlete announced, his fan club will be present. “My mom and dad booked a big house. And I know there will be a bus from Åsarna”he further clarified.
The tour continues on Friday in Val di Fiemme (Italy), with a sprint, the preferred format ofEdwin Anger.
