The tradition was respected. As the year 2024 shone with its last lights, the prefect of Loir-et-Cher, Xavier Pelletier, made a point of visiting all those who are mobilized for the safety and well-being of the inhabitants throughout the night of New Year's Eve.
The State representative began by welcoming in front of the prefecture in Blois the soldiers of the Sentinel force, who regularly roam the streets of the city center but also the tourist sites of the department. New on this last day of the year, two riders from the Chambord horse station came to patrol among the walkers in the heart of Blois. Their van parked in the prefecture park. Xavier Pelletier greeted Marion and Candice, the two Republican Guards, as well as their mounts, Desperado and Domino, before their departure into the field.
A rather serene night
The prefect, accompanied by his chief of staff, Pierre Chareyron, then visited the gendarmes of the departmental group, rue de Signeulx, then the guards of the Blois remand center. His tour also passed through the Blois police station, where the police officers were preparing to go into the field, then through rue Gutenberg, to the alert processing center and to the Blois-nord fire and rescue center, to meet the firefighters on duty.
“This period is more exposed, people are partying, there are sometimes excesses, abuse, it is a question of clearly marking our presence on the ground so that people feel safe on this St. Sylvester »explained the state representative, who was also to participate in a patrol with police officers from the Blois anti-crime brigade. Road safety operations were planned during the night and early morning, to ensure that people do not drive drunk and can return safely.
The last night of 2024 was rather calm since no serious accident was reported, while three cars burned (including two by propagation) on rue du Docteur-Schweitzer, in Blois, and two trash cans were destroyed. were set on fire in Vendôme.
Xavier Pelletier has not forgotten the healthcare personnel mobilized at the Blois hospital center. At the start of the evening, he was welcomed by Louis Courcol, cabinet director who assumes interim management of the establishment. He went to the Samu where the head of service, Dr Ali Chekroun, introduced him to the medical regulation team, always in high demand during the holiday period, and which, the day before, had received 785 calls, almost as many than during the Covid crisis.
Already faced with a shortage of general practitioners, Samu 41 must also deal with the difficulties of the Vendôme hospital, currently lacking emergency doctors. The prefect also made a detour to the hospital's psychiatry department, which benefited from a major reorganization completed last March. The medical team had set the table to celebrate New Year's Eve with the patients.
