SATURDAY December 21, 2024at the end of the Christmas tournament of the Saint-Marcel football club, in Eure, the food collection and hygiene products was given to Colette Arnault, the president of the Panier solidaire marcellois association.

This tournament has existed for five years and this year, under the leadership of the technical director, Éric Houssin, followed by the president Olivier Le Bars and the entire team of volunteers, a collection took place.

Involve children in the process

“At the football level, there is an element of sport, of course, but there is also an educational and associative part. Children should be involved in this type of approach at a very young age. Some of the children in the club are among the beneficiaries of the Solidarity Basket. So, given the children who are helped and the Christmas period, it was important to do this collection within the club,” recalled the president.

It's the least we can do to involve the children.

Not far from 350 kg of donations

As a reminder, the Marcello Solidarity Basket helps families of Saint-Marcel who are in need.

It was after Santa Claus distributed treats to the children who participated in the tournament that almost 350 kg of food and hygiene products were given to the volunteers of the Solidarity Basket, delighted with this donation representing almost a weekly distribution.

We are just smugglers. And there is nothing small about a collection. Yesterday, we carried out the Christmas distribution to families and 355 kg were distributed. With us, nothing is free. According to a scale, beneficiaries pay so much per kilo.

The president of the football club noted that a collection will take place at the same time next year.

“The club is focused on helping those who need it and it works,” says the president. This friendly moment allowed volunteers from both associations to get to know each other better and to build connections.
