A year 2024 to forget sportingly for the former Manchester United player who became a second-rate coach in England.
FOOTBALL – Sensation of déjà vu for the former glory of English football. The end of Wayne Rooney's 2024 year ends with a dismissal that is not very encouraging for the rest of his coaching career. And ends as it started: without a club to train.
In post since May 25 on the bench of Plymouth Argyle, an English second division club, he was initially supposed to keep his position as coach of the modest club until the summer of 2027. Except that this Tuesday, December 31, the club and Wayne Rooney finally agreed to terminate this contract.
In question? Unconvincing sporting results and a 24th place in the Championship rankings, which has… 24 teams.

Now without a club, the end of the year for the former Manchester United star strangely resembles his very start to 2024. Almost a year ago to the day, Wayne Rooney was fired by Birmingham City after three little months spent in the club. Without convincing: two victories, four draws and nine defeats.
Recovered by Plymouth Argyle, Wayne Rooney did not experience the results necessary to get his new career off the ground, with five wins, six draws and 14 defeats in the space of six months. The opportunity was therefore too good for his club to start again on new bases with the transition to 2025.
A trend that seems to be repeating itself for the ex “ Wonder Boy » of English football which has no less than five English championship titles, a Champions League and a Europa League. Upon retiring from playing, Wayne Rooney tried his hand at the risky position of player-manager for Derby County. After a year and a half, he finally flew to the United States. Where his experience of “soccer” in MLS ended after just one year. A return home which ultimately ended with two quickly aborted experiences. Not necessarily a good omen for the rest of his career as a football tactician.
