SZA lashes out at body shamers after comment on her 'Brazilian Butt Lift'

SZA is fed up with criticism of her physique. The American singer, whose real name is Solána Imani Rowe, responded to a negative comment under a video on X – since deleted – from a fan showing images of her during the Covid-19 pandemic. “I miss those times so much,” the caption read. In comments, another fan replied: “aka before she became imposing and integrated into bbl culture”, referring to the Brazilian Butt Lift, a cosmetic surgery of the buttocks.

Injured, the singer of Kill Bill responded yesterday that these types of comments were the real reason behind his distancing himself from the public on the sidelines of his success in recent years. “You all say weird things like that and wonder why I'm different and I don't feel comfortable around you anymore. Lol,” she said, before adding: “And I mean different in the sense that I no longer do live and I no longer communicate with you like that (sic), not different in the sense that I change my appearance (sic).”

A difficult time

Especially since the 35-year-old singer went through the pandemic with difficulty. “Covid was hard… my grandmother had just died… I was very depressed and I masked myself. I wasn't eating. I was exercising too much,” she later recalled. “But I always had my childhood home to take refuge in. This is still the case. I'm grateful to be in a much better frame of mind today.”

The RnB star nevertheless admitted to having performed a Brazilian Butt Lift in 2022, which she quickly regretted. “I’m so disgusted that I did this shit,” she told the British Vogue. “I gained all this weight because I was immobile during my recovery and trying to hold on to the fat. It was really stupid.” The experience will have at least taught her that she did not “need” this procedure so much and that her “mental health” required more attention.
