Among the hundred Olympic infrastructures announced in view of the next Winter Games, the Società Infrastrutture Milano Cortina 2026 SpA (SIMICO) recently inaugurated its very first work, namely the track Carosello 3000 in Livigno which, in a little over a year, will be the scene of the acrobatic jumping and moguls events.
Lhe projects for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games are progressing and even starting to come to fruition as the organizers prepare to enter the final year of preparations.
While the site of the Sliding Center for bobsleigh, luge and skeleton competitions was inspected during the month of December 2024 in Cortina d'Ampezzo, with the observation of 67% of the work carried out at this stageanother future facility for the 2026 Olympic Games was inaugurated in the presence of representatives of stakeholders in the Olympic and Paralympic event.
In Livigno, in the Lombardy region, SIMICO was able this month to orchestrate the inauguration of the first of a hundred works for which it is responsible for supervising the installation in preparation for the Games.
On the website of Carosello 3000the structure dedicated to the acrobatic jumping and mogul events was unveiled on Wednesday December 11, 2024 in the presence of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, also Vice-President of the Italian Council, Matteo Salvini.
The latter – very involved in the preparations for the Games – was notably accompanied for the occasion by Fabio Massimo Saldini, Government Commissioner in charge of monitoring the projects within SIMICO, who did not fail to praise the commitment of the authorities to enable the implementation of this project .
As he stated:
I thank the government for its trust and constant presence in support of our work. I also thank you for the applause and I salute all the people who worked to achieve this extraordinary result.
I cannot hide a particular emotion from you for this first ribbon cutting which shows us the way to continue our efforts with commitment and dedication for the realization of all the other Olympic works.
Slopes for freestyle jumping and moguls provide new opportunities for the territory. Livigno is ready to host other international events, even after the Games, thanks to these new state-of-the-art, safe and sustainable sports facilities.
Funded to the tune of more than 4.5 million euros, the site Carosello 3000 East one of the components of snow park currently being developed in Livigno.
On this site – which has received approval from the International Ski Federation (FIS) and which should be able to accommodate up to 3,000 spectators per session at the time of the Games, including 1,000 seats in temporary stands – the work consisted of the arrangement of two slopes and the construction of a ski lift to serve the new facilities.
Concerning the technical characteristics of the two tracks, the one dedicated to acrobatic jumping begins at an altitude of 1,933 meters with a difference in altitude bringing the finish line to 1,883 meters, while the one dedicated to moguls – much longer with a course of 235 meters – will see competitors set off at an altitude of 1,995 meters with an elevation gain leading to a finish at 1,882 meters.
In finethe snow park will also include the sites of Mottolino for the halfpipe, slopestyle and big air events (freestyle skiing and snowboarding) and Sitas-Tagliede for ski cross (freestyle skiing) and for parallel giant slalom and snowboard cross (snowboard) competitions.
