Team Canada continues its flawless performance at the Spengler Cup. Winner 6-2 of Davos in his first match, he confirmed by beating the Straubing Tigers 6-3. Thanks to this success, the Canadians reached the semi-finals and condemned Davos to the quarter-finals.
In a match that they dominated, the Canadians nevertheless played to scare themselves by accumulating penalties (16 minutes). While they opened the scoring in the 5th thanks to Daniel Carr, on loan from Lugano, they saw the Germans return to the numerical advantage with a success from Marcel Brandt in the 8th.
The Canadians certainly regained the advantage after 1’10 in the second period via Logan Shaw, but two minor penalties inflicted in 54 seconds allowed Straubing to equalize once again, this time at 5 against 3 thanks to Travis Saint-Denis at the 30th.

Team Canada therefore had to put the work back into practice. And the Canadians were able to take advantage of a situation of numerical superiority to lead for a third time with a success from Logan Shaw (37th). They then had the good idea to take a two-step lead via Madison Bowey after less than 48 seconds of play in the final third.
Gerard Gallant’s men nevertheless once again lacked discipline and saw the Germans return to 4-3 in the numerical advantage on a goal from Elis Hede (49th). The Canadians finally made the break again in the 52nd minute thanks to a special situation and a success from Noel Hoefenmayer. And only 1’13 later, Jonathan Hazen – Ajoie striker – put his team away once and for all by scoring 6-3.
Straubing will therefore play its quarter-final on Sunday (to be followed from 3:10 p.m. on RTS 2) against Dynamo Pardubice. And in the evening (continued from 8:15 p.m. on RTS 2), Davos will face Kärpät Oulu in the other quarter.
