But, from the Palais des Sports to the D'Ornano stadium, from the athletic tracks to the corridors of the nautical stadium via the streets of the city, the year was also placed under the sign of performances, joy, and surprises!

Coach of Caen Basket Calvados, he led his team to Pro B in June, after an unsuccessful first attempt the previous season. A former player, he favors collective play, emphasizing complementarity. Its objective is to perpetuate the club's place in Pro B.
Renee Haccart
At 95, Renée Haccart participated in her first marathon, in 2024! This resident of Eure was the oldest participant in the Liberty marathon on June 2, in the joëlette pushed by her grandson Alexandre. “Being there, at the start, on the landing beaches, at my age, it’s quite a symbol,” she smiled, before starting the race.
Younes Hichami
Younès Hichami's smile will remain one of the strong images of the year 2024. In a wheelchair since his birth, the young 19-year-old from Hérouvillais was one of the torch bearers in Caen on May 30, before working as a volunteer at the athletes' village, during the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games! “I enjoyed every second. I brought my good humor and my positivity,” he told our columns in October.
Alex Lanier
A badminton player, he marked the year by winning the Japan Open in 2023. This prestigious victory propelled his career onto the international scene, making him a rising figure in French badminton.
Kylian Mbappé
The captain of the France team has had a complicated year in 2024, with the Blues and at club. But, in the good news department, he became the owner of Stade Malherbe Caen in July! “The romantic aspect” played a role, assured Ziad Hammoud, a close friend of Mbappé who became the president of the SMC. The new Real Madrid player was indeed very close to signing up for Caen, at the age of 14, when choosing a training center to launch his career.
Summer McIntosh
The swimmer spent a few days in Caen, during the preparation of the Canadian swimming delegation, for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. At only 17 years old, she brought home three gold medals in the 400 meter medley, the 200 meters butterfly and the 200 meters medley. She is also the first athlete in Canadian history to achieve such a performance.
Alexandre Mendy
Player of SM Caen, he distinguished himself by becoming the top scorer in the club's history, scoring a double in Martigues in October. He has signed more than 70 achievements in Blue and Red, and counting. This summer, Malherbe did everything to keep it.
Flavie Renouard
An athlete from Caen, specializing in middle distance and cross-country, she distinguished herself in 2021 by becoming European hopeful champion over 3,000 meters steeplechase. Known for his energy and his ability to ignite the public, he is one of the best speakers in France, the public of Caen BC, USO Mondeville or ASVEL in the Euroleague will not say the opposite!
Nicolas Seube
Former emblematic captain of SM Caen whose colors he defended on the field as a player (2001-2017), he became the coach this year. Knowing the club better than anyone, he took an important role in coaching the players, offering his experience and vision to help the club succeed.
