Jeju Air's B737-800 Jeju-Beijing declares emergency, diverts to Seoul

A Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 en route to Beijing from Jeju declared an emergency before diverting to Seoul earlier in the day.

Jeju Air Flight 7C8135, operated by a Boeing 737-800, was en route to Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX). The plane was operating a scheduled service from Jeju International Airport (CJU).

The plane was on a cruise flight and crossing the Yellow Sea when the flight crew declared an emergency. A descent and diversion to Searle Incheon International Airport (ICN) was then carried out.

The flight crew issued transponder emergency code 7700 when it established during descent to the diversion airport.

The nature of the emergency causing the diversion is not yet known.

Flight data shows that Flight 7C8135 took off on time from Jeju International Airport at 11:51 a.m. local time on December 27.

The flight then proceeded normally and climbed to cruising altitude FL320 before the emergency was declared.

The flight crew shouted transponder code 7700 during descent via FL180 at 04:13 UTC.

The aircraft operating service 7C8135 to Beijing Daxing International Airport was a Boeing 737-800, registration HL8088. It is a 15.4-year-old narrow-body aircraft belonging to the carrier Jeju Air.

It has been in operational service with the airline since February 2017. Prior to its current service, it was operated by Ryanair since its initial delivery from the factory in September 2009.
