In Montluçon in Allier, 1000 letters were found by the police at the home of a La Poste employee. He is accused of misappropriation of property. Police are currently searching for the victims.

Santa may have been a little late this year. The reason? An employee of La Poste de Montluçon in Allier who worked as an unscrupulous replacement postman in the Domérat and Prémilhat sector.

It was Monday, December 9 that police investigators discovered more than 1,000 boxes at his home. According to our colleagues from La Montagne, the latter had gotten into the habit of opening packages and stealing valuable items before reselling them on the Internet. He admitted the facts.

A complaint filed by the director

It all starts Tuesday, November 26. “On several occasions, the postal services note the return of empty envelopes. So the director of La Poste came to file a complaint for theft of correspondence. He told us that he had suspicions about one of their employees,” explains Commander Olivier Garcia of the Montluçon police.

An investigation was then opened by the police. When the suspect was taken into custody, he admitted the facts. During the search, objects of all kinds were found in his home: shoes, designer clothing, telephones and even holiday vouchers.

Around thirty victims found

According to the commander, currently “around thirty victims have been contacted.” Particularly those whose name is clearly indicated, like on restaurant vouchers for example. For the letters, they will not be returned to the recipients since the suspect destroyed them.

Always according to The Mountainthe flights would have started on November 1 for the police. The investigation will make it possible to determine the legal proceedings to be initiated against the accused, released after his custody. “It is important to specify that this agent, immediately removed from service, has no longer distributed mail or parcels since December 6,” specifies Le Poste in a press release. The police are still looking for the owners of the packages.
