The royal family of Romania resides at Săvârșin Castle during their Christmas and Easter holidays. Săvârșin is a small town located about a hundred kilometers from the Hungarian border. King Michael I acquired this castle in 1943 after staying there several times, invited by the previous owners. Since then, this village of 1,600 souls in the Arad region has been known throughout the country as the holiday destination of the royal family.
This December 26, 2024, three of the five daughters of King Michael I attended the liturgy of the Second Day of Christmas. Margareta of Romania, the eldest of the five daughters and Guardian of the Crown, was accompanied by her husband, Prince Radu, and by Princess Sofia and Princess Maria.
The service was presided over by Archbishop Timotei of Arad. He was assisted by the priest Călin Mădăluță, the protosyncellus Dr. Iustin Popovici and the archdeacon Claudiu Condurache. After the service, Margareta, Radu, Sofia and Maria from Romania invited the clergy and officiants to share lunch at Săvârșin Castle.
