A partnership agreement was signed on Wednesday December 18, 2024 in Marvejols between the community of communes of Gévaudan, the French Hiking Federation and the French Cycling Federation.
Promote outdoor activities. This is the objective of the agreement signed this Wednesday, December 18 between the community of communes of Gévaudan, the French Cycling Federation (FFC) and the French Hiking Federation (FFR). It should make it possible to give better visibility to these activities, while avoiding conflicts of use. Enough to make the most of the “life-size playground“that the territory of Gévaudan offers.
The largest FFC-certified park in the department
Olivier Berne, representative of the French Cycling Federation (FFC) and president of the Targuet bike adventure association, confided his joy at seeing the agreement signed: “I have always dreamed of having well-marked routes, which could allow you to discover these practices within our communities.“
He was keen to create itineraries throughout the community. There are fifteen of them, for a total of 360 km. “It is the largest FFC-certified park in the department.“, underlines Olivier Berne.
Courses for all levels
The markings put in place indicate the direction to follow but also the wrong roads, two-way sections and areas where to slow down. Enough to get started with complete peace of mind. All difficulty levels are represented, from easy to very difficult.
The shortest route is 9 km. It leaves Marvejols to reach the Cham plateau. The longest goes around the Aubrac mountains in 50.4 km with 1,410 m of elevation gain.
A renewed partnership with the hiking federation
The agreement also recorded the renewal of the partnership between the community of municipalities and the French Hiking Federation (FFR) for the marking and maintenance of paths.
The territory of the community of communes alone has 169 km of walks and hikes (PR), not counting the two GR® which cross it (the path of Urbain V and the tour of the Aubrac mountains) recalled the president of the Lozère branch of the FFR, Danielle Mouffard.
Hikes leaving the station planned
In addition to these routes, the community wishes to develop routes for people with reduced mobility. The area already has one, thanks to the Montrodat center. An approach that the community of municipalities wishes “continue within the framework of the Tourism and Disability label“, specifies president Patricia Brémond.
Another area of work, the “hike out of the station“. Especially since that of Marvejols has just been renovated and the restoration of that of Chirac is planned.
Climbing, trail running and equestrian sport
Beyond hiking and cycling, the community of communes of Gévaudan has carried out climbing arrangements in Val d’Enfer in order to make it more practical and secure. The site now has fifty-four routes, from 8 m to 30 m. Ten trail routes have also been marked. “We are working on a long-distance trail event that we want to make unmissable and annual“, announces Patricia Brémond.
Finally, the community is interested in the development of equestrian activities. With this in mind, the community of communes of Gévaudan launched an equestrian show last July in Bourg-sur-Colagne.
